Hi everybody! My name is Antonio Ruiz my close friends and family know me as Ephraim. I am a married 34 year old of Puerto Rican descent (though I was born and raised in Brooklyn) Above is a picture of my beloved family; my lovely wife Veronica and precious daughter Layala.
Veronica is 21 years old and we have been together for over 3 years now. She is planning on going back to college this next semester and pursue a degree in Art and Teaching. Her goal is to one day become an Art Teacher for kids. She is really great with kids, understanding and patience are her two strong points; they match her inner beauty as wll as her outer. But the inner is what is most important to me.
Our daughter Layala was born December 5, 1996 at the Morris Heights Child-Birthing Center in Morris Heights of the Bronx. She was 21 inches long and a scrappy 9lbs. She was born at 8:31a.m and gave Veronica only three (easy for me to say) hours of agonizing labor. But we agree she was worth that and more. She is so sweet...she loves and appreciates all her toys. she goes through this sort of ritual of kissing and hugging them at least once a day; sometimes more! She grooms them; brushing thier hair, fixing thier clothes etc. She always has a hug and a kiss for us too and is very affectionate. I guess she got that from us. She has Daddys temper though and gets fustrated sometimes when trying to figure out new things, just like her Daddy though always eager to learn. She is very loving towards other kids; this why we are so careful with her around other kids whom are'nt as affectionate as her (a lot of them are just plain mean!) and it kills me inside when I see a kid pushing her or being rough becuase she is so sweet, friendly and gentle; so lady-like. A lot like her mother I guess.
As for myself; I am presently working security/escort services for Channel 7 ABC in New York.
It is an easy job and I get to meet a lot of celebrities. On a daily basis I escort such celebrities as the Good Morning America crew; Eyewitness news at 11 team and Primetime. Here is a small list of people I have either met or escorted while working at ABC:
Jerry Sienfeld...Garth Brooks...Vivaca Fox...Haile Berry...Backstreet Boys...Susan Lucci...Hanson...John Goodman...Rev. Jesse Jackson...Minister Louis Farrakhan
... I may have forgotten a few but I will add them at a later date. Like I said nice job I have been there since Oct 96 (when the Yankees won the World Series! and two months before our daughter Layala was born).
Before this job I had been working at the World Trade Center also doing security. That job paid double what I am making now; but our union (32BJ) ran into a contract dispute with Port Authority (owners of the World Trade) when they wanted to re-negotiate our salaries to lower them. Eventually we were all laid off and workers at half our wages were hired. At the present moment we are in a court battling the Port authority. Up to now the courts have decided in our favor and ordered the P.A to re-instate us with our old salaries, (with yearly pay increases) and gives backpay for all the time we have been laid-off (which right now will probably be about $75-$90,000 being that we have been laid off for 2 and a half years!) So as you can see I wont be working at ABC for long. Its a nice job, pays the rent but got to go where the $$$ is at for my family's sake.
I spent 8 years in the Army in an Air Defense missle systems unit. Served in the Persian Gulf War and got out of the service as a Sergant a year later and have been basically doing secuirty since then. I plan on attending college soon and acquiring a degree in Security Management as soon as I get my financial aid packet taken care of. My dream is to one day have my own security company.
I am also very active in community affairs and am an activist of sorts when it comes to dealings with the social, cultural and poltical aspects of the African-American; Hispanic and Native American communities. I am a self-taught scholar who spends a lot of time reading about the history, culture and scial issues which affect the above named groups of people. My favorite authors/scholars are Vine Deloria, Ward Churchill and Noam Chomsky.
Before I let you guysgo a special "shout out" t some special people in my life...Norman (thanks for being that friend i can always talk too) Bobby brothers for life; yours in life and death! Gerson mi hermanito Taino querido! and THANK YOU GREAT SPIRIT for blessing me with this life and all those so special and dear to me. Well dont want to bore you anymore! Keep in touch people and dont forget to sign my guestbook. PEACE!!!
