Application: The article dealt with the human language. It starts out by emphazing on how poetry has a sort of " beat" or "pulse". The human language also has this; however in illnesses such as Parkinsons' disease; this beat gains an uncontrollable acceleration. According to Ms. Aitchinson speculations made by reknown linguists Lenneberg & Cromer tells us that the normal rate of uttering syllables is six per second.

To sum it all up; it seems that the paragraph tries to hammer the point that human language was programmed in each & every one of us. Just as bats are programmed to squeak, apes to climb trees etc. so is the human brain, lungs and vocal organs pre-set to deal with speech.
